Startup funding news 💸

  • Barcelona-based TravelPerk, a business travel management platform, raised $200M in a Series E funding round led by Atomico. This investment nearly doubles the company’s valuation to $2.7B. The funds will support TravelPerk’s expansion in the U.S. and further development of its AI capabilities. Additionally, TravelPerk has acquired Swiss startup Yokoy to integrate native expense management into its platform. CEO Avi Meir wrote about the round here
  • Valencia-based Quibim, a startup specializing in AI for medical imaging, raised $50M in a Series A funding round led by Asabys and PE firm Buenavista. The investment will support the deployment of Quibim’s AI models in U.S. healthcare facilities. Kfund is also an investor in Quibim and we also participated in this round. We wrote about the investment here
  • Barcelona-based Mundimoto, a motorcycle sales and rental platform, raised €21.1M. The round includes €8.1M in equity, led by Endeavor and Orilla Asset Management, and €13M in bank debt from Santander, Sabadell, and CaixaBank. With €70M in revenue in 2023, Mundimoto aims to dominate the Southern European motorcycle leasing market
  • Valencia-based iPronics, a photonic computing startup, secured a €20M Series A funding round led by Triatomic Capital. The investment will accelerate the deployment of iPronics’ Optical Networking Engine (ONE) in AI data centers, enabling rapid, scalable, and high-bandwidth communication for energy-efficient AI
  • Elche-based Voxelcare, a provider of technology for custom orthopedic insole production, raised €5.5M from Axon
  • Barcelona-based Kanguro, a logistics startup, secured a €2M funding round with support from Sego Finance, Suma Capital, and Ona Capital Private. The investment will enhance their AI-driven technology for optimizing out-of-home (OOH) last-mile deliveries
  • Barcelona-based FisioReact, a startup providing at-home physiotherapy services for businesses and individuals, raised €1M

M&A activity 🎊

  • Nax Solutions sold a majority stake to Seaya Andromeda. The remaining 45% stays with the founding team, who will continue to manage the company. Nax specializes in precision agriculture through AI-driven crop monitoring and optimization. The company had scaled to around €5M in recurring revenue with no external funding
  • Bondo Advisors M&A published a report on exit activity and trends in the Spanish and European software markets in 2024
  • Hotelbeds (HBX Group) has fully covered its IPO book within hours, with strong institutional demand. The offering, set for February 13, values the company between €2.66B and €3.03B. The IPO will raise €725M, plus €25M-€137M from existing shareholders. CEO Nicolas Huss could earn up to €56.2M in bonuses
  • Indra has agreed to acquire 89.68% of satellite operator Hispasat from Redeia for €725M. The deal, subject to regulatory approvals, will be financed with €700M in debt and €25M from Indra’s cash reserves. Redeia, which bought Hispasat in 2019 for €933M, will incur a €112M loss

Startup news 💡

  • Profile of Tradeinn, the online retailer of sports products. The company closed 2024 with €555M in sales, +11% YoY, and 10% of EBITDA margin. Suma Capital is still looking to sell its 30% stake in the business. Decathlon was rumoured to be the buyer, but negotiations fell through because, according to CEO David Martin, “because the business visions did not align”
  • Interview with Álvaro Higes, CEO of Luzia. The AI mobile assistant has 60 million users across 40 countries (doesn’t specify if those users are active, registered, total downloads, etc). The app remains free. In the interview he talks about what could be Luzia’s business model (ads or promoted links) and other topics. Luzia has raised more than $30M in funding
  • Profile of Crescenta, the platform that brings PE and VC to retail investors. Crescenta is launching two new fund-of-funds with a €10,000 minimum investment. After surpassing its 2024 target with €125M AUM and 1,400 investors, the firm now aims for €500M AUM and 5,000 investors by year-end. Crescenta is a Kfund portfolio company
  • Profile of Hanaley, an online travel agency based in Barcelona, that concluded 2024 with a 30% increase in revenue, reaching €5 million (+30% YoY)
  • Internxt concluded 2024 with €3.4M in revenue and achieved positive EBITDA in Q4. Internxt offers privacy-focused cloud storage solutions. The company has around 30 employees and the US is its main market (12% of revenue)
  • Jotelulu expects to reach €13M in sales this year, up from €3M in 2023. The company helps IT companies transform into cloud service providers for SMEs
  • Holaluz has canceled its extraordinary general shareholders’ meeting, initially scheduled for February 4, 2025, where an €22M capital increase was to be approved, allowing Icosium Investment to acquire a 33.4% stake

  • Profile of BBVA Spark, the bank’s startup-focused division. The firm is expanding into Europe with a new London office
  • Javier Olivan, Meta’s COO, to oversee Reality Labs’ business operations, the division responsible for developments in VR and AR
  • Mercadona IT, the retailer’s department dedicated to developing technological solutions to modernize the company’s internal processes, has launched a digital excellence plan with an investment of €250 million until 2028. Also, the company announced a 13.7% increase in its online shopping fee, raising the delivery charge from €7.21 to €8.20
  • On the topic of the evolution of electric vehicles in Spain: Spain’s public EV charging network grew by over 30% in 2024, but operators face major bureaucratic hurdles that delay installations between 10 months and 3 years
  • Telefónica has inaugurated a new Talent and Technology Center in Vigo, focusing on cybersecurity services for both national and international clients
