  • According to La Informacion, Jobandtalent is currently raising a new round of funding at a €2b valuation
  • According to El Referente, Spanish startups have raised a combined €3b so far in 2021
  • Barcelona-based Onna, the ‘knowledge integration platform’ for workplace apps, raised $11m
  • Madrid-based corporate meeting platform Troop raised $8m, led by Madrona Venture Group
  • Madrid-based foodtech startup Katoo raised €6.2m to bring tech to the old-school food supply industry. We led the round at K Fund
  • Barcelona-based legaltech startup RepScan raised €1.2m from various business angels

M&A activity 🎊

  • According to Cinco Dias, Glovo has hired Morgan Stanley and Uría Menéndez to explore the possibility of going public in 2022 at a €2b valuation
  • Wallbox's SPAC is about to be completed, which mean that the company will start floating on the New York Stock Exchange
  • LoopUp acquired Madrid-based SyncRTC to accelerate innovation in cloud communications. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Arcano Blue Bull advised the shareholders of SyncRTC in the transaction
  • TravelPerk acquired travel sustainability consultancy firm Susterra, which uses data analytics technology to “offer companies a holistic view of their entire business travel-related environmental impact”
  • Barcelona-based corporate e-learning platform Homuork got acquired by Canadian firm LCI Education

Investor & accelerator news 🚀

  • FOND-ICO launched a new call for applications to invest in Spanish investment firms. The new program has a budget of €750m and ICO plans to invest in as many as 15 firms. Also related to public money going into VC firms, La Informacion says that several funds are already in touch with the Spanish government to try to get a piece of the €4b pie that the government is putting together, also called Fond Next Tech
  • Eatable Adventures is a new €50m fund to invest in foodtech seed and Series A companies in Europe and Latam
  • The Spanish government could allow anyone with as little as €10k and certain knowledge of the private markets to invest in VC firms. As of today, the limit is €100k
  • Business Insider wrote about our recently announced growth fund, Leadwind, as well as the sale of Kibo Venture's first fund as examples of the maturation of the Spanish VC landscape
  • Climbspot is a new kind of accelerator/incubator program following the "work for equity" model
  • PC Componentes has launched a venture builder

  • La Informacion published a profile of crypto startup (and Dealflow.es sponsor) Bit2me. The article focuses on Bit2me's expansion plans following their recent €20m ICO and the various crypto-related products that they currently offer
  • Talent agency Manfred published an interesting report on how covid-19 has affected the preferences of technical talent in Spain. Lots of interesting tidbits about remote work, flexibility and other topics
  • Carlos Domingo's Securitize launched its secondary marketplace for trading tokenized shares of private companies under a subsidiary called Securitize Markets
  • Business Insider talked to Flywire, GeeksHubs, Genial.ly and Uptodown about how they approach talent acquisition and retention in a post-pandemic environment

Big company news 🏦

  • This is not a big surprise, but we now have some data: Spain's Google Tax has been an absolute disaster in the first six months of 2021. The Spanish tax office has only collected €92m, or 10% of the amount they expected for the period
  • BBVA still owns 39% of UK neobank Atom. As most other neobanks, Atom has been bleeding money since its foundation (€300m in losses since 2016) and they've recently announced that they have cash until early 2022. BBVA will have to make a decision of whether to continue to invest in Atom or get diluted
  • Inditex's online sales grew by 130% in 2020 in markets where the company did not have retail stores
  • Vodafone to follow in the footsteps of other telcos and launch its own energy product
  • Sage to lay off 90 employees in Spain and Portugal
