  • Madrid-based Nextail raised $10 million for its intelligence platform for fast fashion retailers. The round was led by KEEN Venture Partners LLP, with participation from Sonae IM and existing investor Nauta Capital
  • Bilbao-based fashion startup Lookiero raised €4 million from All Iron Ventures
  • Madrid-based real estate crowdfunding startup Urbanitae raised almost €1 million from K Fund, All Iron Ventures and Viriditas
  • Galician startup Pilgrim raised €400,000

  • Spanish VC firm Samaipata Ventures invested in French startup Totem. The company explained why it made the investment in a blog post
  • Banco Sabadell launched BStartup Health, a program to invest in health startups

  • Edtech startup Iron Hack continues its international expansion, with two new programs in Amsterdam and Sao Paulo. According to Kippel01, Iron Hack also expects to launch ‘in-company programs’ this year and a new course focused on data analysis
  • El Confidencial published a very critical article about Glovo and its labour relationship with riders
  • Mobile classifieds startup Letgo has started implementing its monetisation plan in the US, as its popularity continues to grow in Turkey
  • NYC and Madrid-based CoverWallet looks to make it easy for businesses to get commercial insurance. The company will create an open-ended tool that allows third parties to plug directly into its services
  • Motorbikes from eCooltra will be available outside of Madrid’s M30 area in the fall. The company also disclosed a partnership with emov to launch different initiatives in Madrid and Lisbon

Big company news 🏦

  • Travel tech company eDreams published its earnings report for its latest fiscal year: €20 million in net profit (vs. €10 million in the previous term) on €508 million in revenue (+5%)
  • Telefonica to pay more than €1 billion to secure Champions League TV rights in Spain. The company expects to now sell the rights to Vodafone and Orange
  • La Informacion looked at the business partnership between Amazon and local Spanish market Mercado de la Paz

Tech and policy 💂🏼

  • Barcelona to implement limitations on Uber and Cabify in the city, with a strict 1-to-30 ratio for VTC licenses vs. taxi ones. The Spanish government has told Barcelona’s city major that it does not have power to regulate in such a way the activity of both companies
  • Amazon continues its discussions with labour unions that threaten to once again go on strike. Workers in its distribution centres demand better working conditions
